Addressing PFAS: A Focus on Forever Chemicals in Wastewater
At Viridis, we are passionate about tackling the most complex water challenges. To that end, we are actively expanding our focus to include emerging contaminants like PFAS (Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). These "forever chemicals" are found in a vast array of industrial and consumer products, leading to their widespread presence in various wastewater streams and posing significant environmental and health risks. The persistent nature and documented toxicity of PFAS compounds are escalating the severity of this problem, prompting regulators worldwide to intensify their scrutiny and demand more effective treatment solutions.
To combat this, Viridis is actively exploring solutions through:

Reduction in Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
The Challenge
A global leader in sustainable water treatment technologies, renowned for its range of solutions across the energy and industrial manufacturing sectors, engaged Viridis to conduct a feasibility study relating to the efficient degradation of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in water.
Our Approach
Viridis conducted controlled laboratory experiments simulating real-world contamination scenarios by testing water solutions spiked with Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
The results demonstrated strong efficacy of Viridis' technology in eliminating PFAS from wastewater, with superior performance compared to standard electro-oxidation reactors (Maldonado et al. (2020))
The Results
The treatment process was highly effective, achieving over 99% efficacy in reducing PFOA and 98% efficacy in reducing Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
