Supporting Water Resilience in the Pulp and Paper Industry
At Viridis, we are exploring market expansion opportunities in the rapidly-growing pulp and paper sector.
The pulp and paper industry, a cornerstone of Canadian forestry, is one of the most water-intensive manufacturing sectors. It generates large volumes of wastewater laden with lignin, suspended solids, and chemical residues. Much of this water is discharged rather than reused, contributing to high environmental impact and operational inefficiencies.
Our solutions are designed to support long-term water resilience and sustainable industrial growth within this vital sector. Viridis' work in the pulp and paper industry includes:
Scientific Research
Technical Feasibility Studies
Targeted Industry Consultations
Early-Stage Technology Adaptation

Reduction in total organic pollutants (COD)
The Challenge
A not-for-profit, R&D organization dedicated to accelerating innovation and growth across Canada's forestry and pulp & paper sector engaged Viridis to test our technology in treating wastewater samples from paper manufacturing plants.
Our Approach
Viridis deployed its state-of-the-art electro-oxidation reactor, engineered for high-efficiency degradation of dissolved organics, to treat the wastewater provided by the client. The team evaluated contaminant reduction and monitored key performance metrics to validate treatment efficacy and energy efficiency.
The Results
Viridis' technology achieved. 99%+ efficacy in reducing Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). The process also significantly improved the water's clarity, with an 80% efficacy in reducing turbidity and an 86% efficacy in reducing color. The pH was also successfully balanced.
